Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined the EU in 2004, but since 2001 there has been rapid development in their biotech sectors, although these are still small. Factors contributing to this growth are discussed, and the focus and characteristics of the biotech sectors in each country are outlined, using selected companies as examples.
