Genasense® (oblimersen sodium) is an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) developed by Genta for systemic use as an injection. It
comprises a phosphorothioate backbone linking 18 modifi ed DNA bases, and targets the fi rst six codons of BCL-2 mRNA to form a DNA/RNA complex, which is subsequently recognised as foreign and cleaved enzymatically.
