In an attempt to expand its rare disease portfolio, Ipsen has agreed to acquire Memo Therapeutics for a total deal value of approximately €900 M (US$1026.78 M). Through this strategic takeover, Ipsen picks up Memo’s lead asset potravitug for BK polyomavirus associated nephropathy (BKPyVAN), a therapy targeting a significant unmet medical need for kidney transplant recipients. Demonstrating a favourable safety profile, potravitug has received Fast Track Designation from the US FDA as well as Orphan Drug Designation in the European Union. The product and Memo’s antibody discovery platform, DropZylla, is a strategic fit to Ipsen’s expansion into diseases with significant unmet medical needs with limited therapeutic options.
