Stroke is a debilitating condition that affects millions of people the world over. It is the leading cause of adult disability and the third leading cause of death in the world. Moreover, it is projected soon to become the most common mortality factor ahead of cancer and coronary heart disease. However, treatment options are few and there is currently a large gap in the market. In this review, we focus on the prevention and treatment of the disease and consider some of the products in late-stage development.
