Diquafosol (INS365) is an activator/agonist of P2Y2 purinergic receptors on epithelial cells. In airway epithelia, P2Y2 receptors are regulators of mucociliary clearance and mucosal hydration, and in the eye they act in the regulation of fluid secretion.
