Interferons are glycoproteins produced by leukocytes to attack viruses and tumor cells. This article focuses on three types of interferons available as therapeutic products: alpha, beta and gamma; their use in treating viral infections, cancer and autoimmune conditions; and novel delivery methods. Also presented are modified and combined forms of alpha exhibiting improved therapeutic efficacy than conventional ones.
