Using Options in Pharmaceutical Licensing

Abstract
Options exist to develop follow-up molecules to a lead drug candidate or to take co-marketing interest in certain territories. The methods used to value options include Expected Net present Value (ENPV) incorporating discounted cash flow and decision tree analysis, Black-Scholes Options and Binomial Real Options. The article discusses about the merits and pitfalls associated with the use of these methods in pharmaceutical licensing.
